651 Error On Windows 7

Windows 7 Error 651 is an indication that there is a problem with the modem device driver.  This error is typically encountered when you are attempting to gain access to the Internet using the PPPoE connection.  This error is fairly common among Windows 7 systems and does not seem to appear on Windows XP and Vista versions.  The problem is mainly caused by the way in which Windows is not able to process a file or setting properly.  You need to resolve the issues surrounding the PPPoE connection to be able to connect to the Internet.  This tutorial will help you fix the error 651 on Windows 7 systems.

What Causes The 651 Error On Windows 7?

The 651 error on Windows 7 is primarily caused by a faulty rasppoe.dll file preventing you from gaining access to the Internet.  The error can be due to the dll file becoming damaged or missing, or when there are problems inside the registry.  You need to be able to resolve the issues surrounding your modem and fix it efficiently – which can be performed using the steps below:

How To Fix The 651 Error On Windows 7

Step 1 – Replace “RASPPOE.dll” With New Version

To fix the problem, the first step that you need to do is replace the rasppoe.dll with a new version.  You can obtain a fresh copy of the dll file from the Internet and then register it onto your Windows system.  Here’s how you can do this:

  1. Download rasppoe.dll from the Internet
  2. Save the rasppoe.dll file onto your computer’s hard drive
  3. Browse to c:WindowsSystem32
  4. Locate the current rasppoe.dll on your system
  5. Rename the current rasppoe.dll to rasppoeBACKUP.dll
  6. Copy & paste the new rasppoe.dll into C:WindowsSystem32
  7. Click Start > Run (Or search ”Run” on Vista & Win7)

  • Select Properties
  • Click the Device Manager link on the left side

Step 3 – Clean Out The Registry Of Your PC
