80070003 Windows Update Error

Windows Update Error 80070003 is caused by “Temporary Files” being blocked inside your computer. These files are used by Windows to help save the updates you’re downloading onto your system, and are used continually on your system. Unfortunately, it’s the case that your PC will actually be unable to correctly save the files & settings which will ensure that the update files can be saved to your computer, making it vital that you’re able to clean out the various parts of your system in the most effective way.

How To Fix Windows Update Error 80070003

Step 1 – Manual Method

STOP WINDOWS UPDATE SERVICE

  1. Open Administrative Tools by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Administrative Tools.
  2. Right-click the Windows Update service, and then click Stop.
  3. Double-click Services. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

DELETE TEMPORARY FILES

  1. Open Computer by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, and then clicking Computer.
  2. Click the Back button. In the SoftwareDistribution folder, double-click theDownload folder to open it, and then delete all files in the folder. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. Double-click the local hard disk where Windows is installed, typically drive C.
  4. Double-click the Windows folder, and then double-click theSoftwareDistribution folder.
  5. Double-click the DataStore folder to open it, and then delete all files in the folder. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

RESTART WINDOWS UPDATE SERVICE

(You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps)

  1. Open Administrative Tools by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Administrative Tools.
  2. Double-click Services. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. Right-click the Windows Update service, and then click Start.

Step 2 – Automated Method (Recommended)

There’s a tool we love, called RegAce System Suite, which is actually able to remove all the temporary files that your system will have. This program is used to help resolve registry errors, but also has a very good tool that is able to clean out Windows Temporary files as well. If you are not too confident with PCs, or just need to be able to use a tool that’s going to work properly, we’d recommend using RegAce System Suite.
