What Causes The 2105 Error?

  • “Runtime error 2105 – Can’t go to selected record.”

The runtime 2105 error is commonly caused by the operating system being unable to read or load the necessary settings required to execute a file.  The errors can also be triggered by erroneous programs or some problems inside the registry involving damaged registry keys.  You need to repair the errors by first identifying the source, and then resolving it – which can be accomplished using the steps outlined below:

How To Fix Error 2105

Step 1 – Make Sure Any Macro Codes You Have Work Correctly

If your system is using macro codes, then simply deleting them can fix the problem.  You first need to check if your Microsoft Access program is using macro codes and then remove all of them to do away with the frustrating error messages.  Here’s how you can do this:

  1. Open the Microsoft Access program and use an existing database or create a new one.
  2. Click the Microsoft Office button at the top left of the program interface, and then click the “Access Options” button.
  3. Click Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Macro Settings and select disable macros.  You can choose any of the three disable macros options.
  4. Click OK and exit the program by clicking the Microsoft Office button and then Exit.

Step 2 – Re-Install Any Erroneous Programs

To continue fixing the problem, you need to re-install programs that produce the errors.  You need to remove the program before you re-install it, which you can do by clicking Start > Run and type “appwiz.cpl” in the dialogue box and press ENTER.  Locate and select the program from the list of programs, and then click the “Remove” (XP) or “Uninstall” (Vista and Win7) button.  Restart your PC after you are done removing the programs.  Removing the programs will often remove the errors from your computer.

If you wish to make use of the program again, re-install it by inserting the CD/DVD installer into the appropriate drive and running the installer wizard.

Step 3 – Clean Out The Registry

One large source of PC errors, including the error 2105, is the computer’s registry.  The registry is a huge central repository where all settings for files and programs are stored, which are used by Windows to remember how to load and execute all your files and programs properly.  Despite being vital in the smooth operation of your Windows system, the registry continually accumulates errors.
