Error 193 Fix Tutorial

Error 193 is a serious error that can occur on your Windows system.  It indicates that there is a problem with a Windows service related to networking and security, which may have become damaged or corrupted.  This error will prevent you from installing applications and typically appears during the installation process.  The error will report that the file installer is not a valid Windows application and will be terminated by Windows.  You need to resolve issues surrounding this error message to be able to complete installations in your Windows system.  This tutorial will help you fix error 193 on your PC.

What Causes Error 193?

This error is primarily caused by the way in which Windows is unable to properly process a file or setting.  The problem can easily be caused by faulty applications with damaged program files, outdated Windows system and some problems inside the registry.  You need to identify the source of the error to be able to fix it – which can be performed using the steps below:

Step 1 – Re-Install Any Software Causing The Error

To fix the error, the first thing that you should do is take note of which programs causes the error when you try to run it, and then re-install that program.  You first need to remove the program before you run the installation command.  Here’s how you can do this:

  • Click Start > Run, type “appwiz.cpl” in the dialogue box that appears and press ENTER.
  • When the list of programs has been populated, find the application and select it.
  • Click the “Remove” button (for XP) beside it or the “Uninstall” button (Vista and Win7) near the top of the window.
  • Wait for removal of the application to finish, and then restart your PC.
  • Insert your CD/DVD installer onto your CD/DVD drive and run the installation command.  If you have the file installer in your hard drive, double-click on it and follow the installation wizard.

This process will ensure that the problematic application will be refreshed with a new set of program files.

Step 2 – Update Windows

The problem can easily be caused by an outdated Windows system.  Since the problem is a Windows error, Microsoft is sure to come up with a fix for it.  You need to run Windows with all the latest updates and hotfixes by clicking Start> All Programs> Windows Update.  Just follow the update wizard and restart your PC when prompted.  If the error message still appears, proceed with the next step.

Step 3 – Clean Out The Registry

The “registry” can be a big source of errors that appear on your screen including the error with code 193.  The registry is what Windows utilizes to store all file and program settings and options, which is why the registry is an intricate central database.  It is a significant Windows component.  However, due to it being overused by Windows to the registry, it keeps accumulating errors as you keep on using your computer, especially when you install and uninstall programs.
