How To Repair Error 643 (0×643) On Windows

Error 643 (0×643) is a common Windows error that’s caused by your computer being unable to correctly connect to the Internet.  The error itself normally shows either when you use an Internet-enabled application, or when you try and install a program which uses the Internet to update itself. What Is the 643 (0×643) Error On Windows?

This error is caused by your computer being unable to connect to the Internet, and is a common issue for PCs which are either trying to install an Internet-enabled application, or computers which are just trying to access the Internet in any way they can.

How To Fix 643 Errors On Your PC

Step 1 - Check Your Internet Connection For Problems

The first step is to ensure that your computer is actually able connect to the Internet, you should first ensure that you have all the correct settings for your system. To do this, you first ensure that your “Network Connection” is working correctly, and then that your PC all the correct “Internet Options” in Internet Explorer. This is relatively advanced, but it’s typically the case that your system will be okay if you have not been changing the settigns which your PC will use for the Internet.

Step 2 - Update Your Windows System & Drivers

A common problem for Windows PCs is that the system will either be outdated or have some sort of error with its drivers. You can fix this problem by updating Windows, and then any drivers which could be out of date, by following the steps outlined below:

Update Windows

  • Click “Start > All Programs > Windows Update”
  • Download all the updates for your PC (if possible)

Update Your Network Drivers

  • Click “Start > Control Panel > Device Manager”
  • Locate the Network adapter for your PC
  • Right-click and select “uninstall”
  • Restart your PC
  • Let Windows re-install the driver onto your computer.

This will basically allow your PC to refresh all the settings & options that may be causing the 643 error, allowing it to run much smoother as a result.

Step 3 - Use The “Windows Installer Cleanup Utility”

The Windows Installer Cleanup utility is a free piece of software designed by Microsoft to help clean out any of the settings / problems that could be preventing your system from correctly isntalling a piece of software. The 643 error is a common problem which is caused by a corruption with the Windows Installer being corrupted – making it recommended you fix the issue with this piece of software.

Step 4 - Clean Out The Registry Of Your PC

643 Errors are also caused by registry errors on your PC. Registry errors are problems caused by the “registry database” of your computer – a central database which keeps all the settings, information and files that Windows will use to run – and is where your computer keeps everything from your desktop wallpaper to your most recent emails.

One of the big problems with the registry is the way in which this database will typically become damaged and corrupted – leading your PC to run much slower and with a lot of errors. The 643 error often occurs when Windows will be unable to correctly read its registry settings – making it recommended you fix any of the errors it has by downloading & running a registry cleaner application.
