How To Repair The SVCHOST 0x745f2780 Error On Your PC – Working Fix To Resolve 0x745f2780 This Error For Good

SVCHOST.EXE is a generic process name for services that transfer the functionalities of exe files to dynamic link libraries. This enables Windows to reuse functionalities and launch the different dll files, for they cannot just run by themselves. The 0x745f2780 error is produced by a corrupted Windows Update process and it usually appears after logging in to Windows. You need to resolve the issues surrounding the Windows Update utility to be able to fix the problem. This tutorial will enable you to correct the 0x745f2780 errors in your PC.

What Causes The SVCHOST 0x745f2780 Error?

The error is generally caused by an improper Windows Update or when the files that are brought in to your system are corrupted, which leads to the error message appearing on your screen and slowing down of your computer.  The error can also be caused by incorrect update settings and unregistered Windows Update dll files.  You need to correct the problem with the svchost.exe file – which can be performed using the steps outlined below:

How To Fix SVCHOST 0x745f2780 Errors

Step 1 – Verify Windows Update Setting Are Correct

To fix the problems related to the Windows Update service, you first need to verify the different Windows Update settings are correct.  Here’s how to do this:

  • Click Start> Run and then type “services.msc” in the dialogue box and click OK.
  • Locate the “Automatic Updates” service and double-click on it.
  • Click the “Log On” Tab and then make sure that the “Local System Account” is selected as the logon account and the check box for “allow service to interact with desktop” is “UNCHECKED”.
  • In the “Hardware Profile” section inside the “Log On” Tab, make sure the “Automatic Updates” service is enabled.
  • On the General Tab, the Startup Type should be “Automatic”, and if not, you need to change it by selecting “Automatic” in the dropdown box.
  • Under “Service Status” on the General tab, the service status should be “Started” which you can do by clicking the “Start” button to enable it.
  • Repeat the same steps above for the service named “Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS).”

Step 2 – Re-Register The Windows Update DLL Files

You need to re-register the “WUAPI.DLL” file to ensure that the Windows Update service will work properly.  Here’s how to re-register the Windows Update DLL files:

  • Click Start> Run, type “cmd” and then click OK.
  • In the Command Prompt window, type “REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL” and press Enter.
  • Wait until the “DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded” message appears and then click OK.
  • Type also the following commands to register the other Windows Update DLL files and repeat the same process:

    REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL
    REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL
    REGSVR32 ATL.DLL
    REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL
    REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
    REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
    REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL

Step 3 – Stop The Windows Update Service From Running

To stop the Windows Update service from running, you need to go to the “Services” window and disable the service.  To stop the service, you need to click Start> Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Services.  Locate “Automatic Updates” and right-click on it.  Select “Stop” and press OK.

Step 4 – Clean Out The Registry

If correcting the Windows Update settings did not prevent the error message from appearing, you need to clean out the registry, which is a big source of svchost 0x745f2780 errors and lots of other problems.
