Windows Installer 1603 Error Fix

The Windows Installer 1603 Error is caused by the Windows Installer engine not functioning correctly. This is a central set of features & settings that all Windows systems use to help them load up a number of important options for your PC. It is possible that the installer package you were trying to install is encrypted and your computer is unable to decrypt the information, or your system does not have full control over the file you were trying to open.

What Causes The Windows Installer 1603 Error?

One of the main causes of this error is that your SYSTEM account does not have Full Control permissions on the folder that you are trying to install the Windows Installer package to. You will notice the error message because the Windows Installer service uses the SYSTEM account to install software. You may also have “registry errors” on the Windows system.

How To Fix The Windows Installer 1603 Error

You can do either one of these steps to fix the 1603 error

Step 1 – Install The Package To A Folder That Is Not Encrypted

Encrypted folders are pretty rare in Windows. This means that you should begin by CREATING a new folder and the installing the software into it. This can be done by following these steps:

  • Click “Start”
  • Click “Computer”
  • Browse to the location where you want to install the program
  • Right-Click
  • Select “New Folder”
  • Rename the folder
  • Install the program into this folder

Step 2 – Install The Package To A Drive That Is Not Accessed As A Substitute Drive.

A “Substitute Drive” is used to help load up a number of virtual files / settings on your computer. It’s used with the likes of external hard drives, as well as a number of other programs to help Windows read all the files that it needs to run. If you’re experiencing problems with the 1603 error, it may be down to your PC installing the program into a substitute drive rather than a physical one. You should install the program into a different drive to protect against this error.

Step 3 – Clean Out The Registry

The “registry” of Windows is one of the biggest causes of the 1603 error. It’s primarily used to store the likes of your desktop wallpaper, your most recent emails and even your passwords – and is continually being used to help ensure that your system is able to run as smoothly as possible. Although this database is arguably one of the most important parts of your system, it’s continually leading your system to run much slower and with a lot of problems. To resolve this error, it’s essential that you’re able to clean out any of the errors that it may have inside – through using a registry cleaner application.

We recommend using a program called “RegAce System Suite“, as this tool will scan through your PC and fix any of the issues that it may have inside. We’ve found that this tool is one of the most effective in being able to resolve the problems you’re experiencing on your system, allowing your computer to run much smoother and more effectively as a result.
