How To Fix Windows Error 1436

Windows Error 1436 is the result of a program trying to tap the menu on the child Window for use in its user interface.  Child windows will typically look the same as the main Window.  However, the only thing that would differentiate the two is that the Child Window does not have a menu to change important settings on the computer.

What Causes Windows Error 1436?

Windows Error 1436 is caused by an application attempting to use the menu on the Child Windows to be part of its user interface. However, the Child Window does not have a menu unlike the main Window whose appearance resembles it. By definition, a child window is an area that you can find in the parent Window.  Just by appearance alone, it will be hard to distinguish the Child Window.

This error would be typically displayed in the following format:

Microsoft Windows Error Message 1436:

‘ERROR_CHILD_WINDOW_MEN’ Child Windows cannot have menus.

How To Fix Windows Error 1436

Step 1 – Update Windows

The first thing that you will want to do when you have this error is to update Windows on your PC.  If you are running an outdated Windows version, then your PC will be lacking fixes that Microsoft periodically provides for known errors like the error 1436. To get the latest fixes from Microsoft,  follow the steps listed here:

  • Click Start
  • Next choose All Programs from the drop down list
  • Select Windows Update
  • You will then see a new window prompt in your screen, from which you should click on the Check For Updates option
  • Once it is finished checking for updates, select Install updates to obtain the latest fixes from Microsoft.

If this doesn’t fix the error, go to step 2.

Step 2 – Re-Install Any Programs Causing The Error

Another probable cause of this error is a problematic program whose settings or files are damaged.  You can easily find out which programs are defective in your PC, since they are the ones that often don’t load up.  In order to re-install a program, follow the simple steps below:

  • Click on Start on your Windows Bar, then choose Control Panel
  • Next select Add/Remove Programs
  • From a list that is prompted on your screen, choose the defective program/s
  • Afterwards, click on either the Remove or Uninstall tab then follow the steps from the uninstall wizard if there is any.
  • Restart your PC to refresh the settings on your system.
  • Insert the CD or DVD installer on your CD/DVD drive to reinstall the uninstalled program/s.
  • Test the application if it runs.

If this still doesn’t repair the error, proceed to Step 3.

Step 3 – Clean Out The “Registry” Of Windows

One sector in your computer that you should also look into if you are experiencing system errors such as Windows Error 1436 is the registry.  What the registry essentially does is store a range of settings, values, entries, extension files, and configurations, some of which are essential to the operations of your PC, while most are redundant.

Whenever a software program in your PC will load, it would turn to the registry for all the processing information it needs to run.  On the other hand, the vast majority of information that you will find in your registry is useless, placing a huge burden your computer’s resources.  Overtime, these types of files will pile up, causing your PC to run slowly, programs to crash and errors to arise.  It is thus imperative that you weed out useless data in your PC from time to time.  You can accomplish this quickly and safely by using an automated registry cleaner.
