How To Fix The c00d1199 Error

The “c00d1199” error is shown when Windows Media Player cannot read the file you want it to play. This can be caused by several reasons, including the file being corrupt or damaged. Anther reason why you might receive the error is because the file you are trying to play could be missing a codec which you need to have everything running smoothly. This error is extremely common on many Windows computers and can be fixed with the steps outlined in this article.

What Causes The c00d1199 Error?

The C00dd1199 error is caused by a number of different issues, including:

  • Trying to play unsupported files in Windows Media Player.
  • You do not have the codec required to play the file
  • Registry errors could prevent Windows Media Player from working
  • The sound controller could be damaged or corrupted

Step One – Select The Correct Output Device in Windows Media Player

Often, Windows Media Player will become corrupt & confused as it will either be trying to play audio out of the wrong audio device, or will have several different devices selected at once. To fix this, follow the steps below to select the correct audio device for your system:

  1. If you haven’t done so already, launch Windows Media Player.
  2. Click Tools, then select Options.
  3. In the Options dialog box, click Devices and then double click Speakers.
  4. Select a different sound card or sound controller from the Audio device to use drop down list.
  5. Click Apply to save your changes.

One of the big causes of the c00d1199 error is down to your computer not having the “codecs” that you need installed on it. Codecs are small programs which allow your computer to read various media formats. Sometimes, Windows computers will say they need a specific plugin or program to play a media file, and that’s because they need a specific codec. The good news is that most codecs are free and you can the all in one codec (which features many of the leading codecs) from the site above.

Step Three – Save The File To Your Hard Drive

Often you will find, files loaded on the Internet can either become corrupt or damaged. This can lead to the c00d1199 error error as it will make Windows Media Player unable to load the content that it wants to play. A good way to avoid this problem is to simply download the file to your hard drive by right-clicking on the web page and selecting Save-As.
