Step 2 – Rename The “Software Distribution” Folder Of Your PC

The “Software Distribution” folder is a central folder on the Windows system, which is continually being used when you try and “update” a piece of software on your PC. In order to ensure that the 0x80240029 error is fixed, you need to rename this folder. Here’s how:

  1. Exit all open programs.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
  3. At the command prompt, type the following command to rename the SoftwareDistribution folder:
  4. net stop wuauserv
    net stop bits
    ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
    net start wuauserv
    net start bits
