Many people have reported that they have been on their computers and have placed a DVD into the disc slot and have found that they cannot play the DVD because the DVD drive is not found. This issue is either going to be caused by Driver problems on your PC, errors with the registry of Windows, or problems with the important files of your system which are required to help the DVD player operate.
What Causes The DVD Drive Is Not Found Error
There could be many different reasons to why your computer cannot find your DVD Drive, however the most likely of causes is going to be:
- Window registry keys are damaged
- Files and settings cannot be found
- DVD Drive is damaged
How To Fix The DVD Drive Is Not Found Error
Step 1 – Delete Specific Registry Keys
The first step is to delete registry keys which are used by the DVD Drive. Not many people know this, but the “registry” of your PC is a large database which stores important information & options for your system. Although this part of your computer is continually being used to help make sure that your computer is able to run smoothly, it’s continually causing a huge number of problems that will result in a large number of Windows errors. To fix this, you can follow these steps:
- Click Start
- Run, type regedit
- Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\
- Delete both UpperFilters and LowerFilters in the right-hand pane
- (UpperFilters.bak and LowerFilters.bak entries can be ignored)
Step 2 – Clean Out The Registry
One of the big causes of DVD Drive errors is through the “registry” database of your computer. This is a large database which stores vital information & settings for your PC, and is used continually to help Windows to read the files, settings & options that it needs to run. Although the registry is one of the most important parts of every Windows system, it’s continually causing a large number of problems thanks to the way it will often become corrupted and unreadable. This is the cause behind many DVD Drive errors, and needs to be resolved by using a reliable “registry cleaner” application.
This step is best completed by downloading RegAce System Suite, and letting it clean out any of the problems that your system may have inside.
